Great news – Monday 22nd February the team from Lonsdale – Tayna McGann, Heather Perkins and Lynne Toleman, won the Barwon Heads Bowl in a three way countback and brought back a very classy piece of silverware. More silverware came our way that week when Lynne Toleman, Barbara Prussner, Sally Hall and Tayna McGann won the Queenscliff Open Ambrose. Congratulations to the winning teams. An excellent start to the year!
Fifty ladies played on Tuesday last week in the hot weather which proved a challenge for most of us with many distressed golfers finishing and others pulling out or resorting to a cart. Sally and Kath are in the process of formulating a Heat Policy document to be put to the women. This will be announced, also a notice in locker room and possibly in the pro shop. With the temperatures rising during summer months we need to be prepared for next year as most of us are getting to the age when it is not sensible to play in extreme heat.
Guest Day is now fully booked with 124 players entered. Thank you to those who have invited a guest filling the course already. Because it is such a large field play could be a bit slow on the day, so please be patient. If it is going to be a relatively hot day please make sure you are properly hydrated in preparation for the day. Sean recommends drinking 2 litres of water the night before, 1 litre in the morning and sip water all the way round. If you can, remember to wear dots or stripes for Guest Day to add to the atmosphere on the day.
If you or your guest has any special dietary requirements for lunch on Guest Day please let the office know ASAP.
If there is enough interest we will plan a Guest Day for the 9 hole players later in the year. This would be played on a Thursday, followed by a light lunch.
The Gourmet BBQ last Wednesday was another great night, so well done again to the Social Club for running this event. We all benefit from these events with the profits going to improvements around the club.
The suggestions/comments book is working well with many of you taking the time to use it. We value your input.
The Bridge lessons have now finished so back to normal social play on Thursday afternoons after Chicken Run announcements. Good to see we have two tables of Solo players also joining in the card afternoons. Other card/board game players welcome to join in also.
Sean is running two clinics for five weeks on Thursdays from 14th April to May 19th. Limited places so book early. Beginners 12.30 – 1.30pm Members 1.30 – 2.30pm
If you know anyone interested in giving golf a try encourage them to join in the beginners’ clinic. In the past these clinics have proved to be a good way of attracting new members.
Sally will be announcing the pennant teams soon. We have sufficient numbers to field five pennant teams and as we lead into the Pennant Season this will be our major focus after Guest Day. Sean will be conducting clinics for pennant players on Saturday 5th March at 2pm and Thursday 10th March at 12 noon. Limit of 15 per session. Be quick and put your name down on list in locker room.
Thank you Eva Russell and Heather McFarlane for the flower arrangements during February, brightening up the ladies locker room. Also Sue Miller for tending the garden during the hot weather to have it looking lovely ready for our Guest Day. Congratulations to Sue on winning the first Quarterly Medal on Saturday 13th with +3, adding to her other two.
Please remember to wear your name tags, or order one. With new ladies joining it makes life easier for them and those of us that have those ‘senior moments’.
Unfortunately this will be the final year that the Ocean Spray event will be played at Anglesea.
PLEASE READ THE IMPORTANT MESSAGE RE GUEST DAY ON THE WEBSITE.
