Women’s Captains Report July
Again the weather has been against us with two Tuesday’s washed out. The medal that was to be played on the 12th has now been reprogrammed for the 9th of August which is a stroke day. The final round of the Janet Gorge was also changed to Tuesday the 26th. As previously discussed at presentation the Doris Chambers Qualifier will not be scheduled this year. We struggle to get sufficient entries to cover the cost and as the final is to be played during the golf trip I anticipate even fewer entries.
Results:
Saturday 2nd, Stableford.
Division One winner Heather Thomas 32 points, division two winner Carolyn Yates 31 points.
Saturday a Par round was also the first round of the Saturday Shield. Winners were Faye Richardson on +2 and Virginia Todd on -3. The progressive Saturday Shield scores will be on the notice board converted to stableford scores.
Tuesday 19th, Gold Tees 2 Person Aggregate, Winners Pam Cornell and Helen Irwin 77 points with Barbara Blair and Petrina Tierney second on 73 points.
Despite really cold weather 43 played on Tuesday the 27th in a stableford. Winner of A grade was Shirley Smith with 31 on a countback from Val Avent and B grade was won by Lynette Reynolds on 33. Nine hole winner was Maxine Wheeler. Tuesday was also the last round of the Janet Gorge. Winner was Tayna McGann with 35 points on day one and 36 on day two with a total of 71, Helen Stratton was a close second on 70 and Tracey Golightly was 68 in third spot. Congratulations Tayna who is still in Port Douglas and totally unaware we played the final round in 6 degrees and wind.
Changes to the course are moving ahead. The 16th hole will be 302 meters for women as a Par 4. This means that the course rating when this is in play and the 18 is played as a par 3 is now 123 off the red tees, so you will notice a small change to handicaps. Please note that nineholers will now be required to play off the first tee so they can be handicapped on a Tuesday. Karen is negotiating with Golf Vic to see if we can get a rating for the back nine from Thursday results. In the meantime this means there may be a couple less slots for eighteen hole players on the first
tee. This has been discussed with the handicapping regulators and is unavoidable at this time of adjustment to the 16th and18th holes. Please get your partners organised for the Charity Day and put forms in. Guests are most welcome. Thank you to Sean and Karen for their work here and making slots available for the nineholers. We love to have then in for lunch with us. Great raffles inside and congratulations to John Whitmore winning the chipping wedge in the club raffle for Declan. Margaret assures me she bought all the tickets but foolishly put John’s name on some of them. She did however do the recent members draw and managed to pull out two women’s groups first. Thank you Margaret.
The six players who went to the SWDLGA clinic for handicappers 26 to 45 had a great day despite the cold and enjoyed Barwon Heads hospitality. The Iris and Charlie is progressing and finalists will be the winner of Lorel Larcombe playing Vicki Leckey and Sally Collier.
