Longuehaye Trophy Report

The final of the Longuehaye Trophy was held on Sunday morning between Derek Edwards / Kate Simpson and Bob Macafee / Petrina Tierney.
It was a great match with excellent golf from both teams, going down to the wire. Petrina and Kate hit great shots and it was a battle of Bob’s putter, (from 30 metres or more) and Derek’s trusty 3 iron. On the 12th Bob putted to 1 foot from 30 metres and chipped very close again on the 16th to win those holes. Derek played very consistently all day and although he had to give 12 and 13 shots with 5 birdies this was not too much trouble.
On the 17th hole 2 trusty irons had him 2 metres from the hole for 2. With no shots on that hole Bob and Petrina conceded to bring the match back to 1 up to Derek and Kate.
With Kate, Petrina and Bob all getting strokes it was a nail-biting finish. Kate was just short of the green, Petrina and Bob both to the right and Derek on the edge. Kate chipped on, Bob missed his chip up and Petrina did a great chip to within 6 foot. Kate missed her putt, Derek missed his by 2 inches but was in for 3 and Petrina had a chance to win but her putt also just slid by to halve the hole.
