The 2017 Claremont Cup final was played on Sunday 13 August between Ian Hunter and John Fearon in the blue corner and Alan Maloney and Marty Evans in the red corner. Alan and Marty won the first but Ian and John made good use of the shots they received to keep the match close. The biggest lead came when Alan and Marty won the 13^th to go 2 up. Again making good use of their shots, Ian and John leveled the score and stood on the 18^th tee with both receiving shots. Marty, as he does so often, holed a clutch putt for birdie to match Ian’s par. Alan awoke from his slumber on the 1^st and played 2 fine shots to set up birdie.

It required a birdie-birdie finish but Alan and Marty were up to the task and are worthy winners of the 2017 Claremont Cup. The match was very competitive and played in the right spirit. Apparently they are still on speaking terms. Congratulations to both of the finalist teams.
