Function
To be responsible for the oversight and administration of all aspects of all Golf Competition Events at the Club, including adjudication on the Rules of Golf and local rules.
The Chair of the Match Committee will be the Club Captain. The Captain will call meetings as required with the Director of Golf providing secretarial support. The Match Committee structure will include one Male Vice Captain and one Female Vice Captain and two more Members (one male and one female) as endorsed by the Board

Specific Responsibilities
- Construct the Match Committee agenda that is consistent with the Club’s Vision and Mission, specifically:
- Welcoming for all golfers
- A progressive and inclusive Club
- We embrace new and beginner golfers
- Be ambassadors and advocate the positive qualities and opportunities of membership at Lonsdale Links.
- Preparation of the annual schedule of golf competitions and events ensuring a varied and attractive golf program, providing events that will appeal to all segments of the Membership.
- Attention should be given to development of strategies for encouraging participation of groups and formats including Mixed Golf, Women’s Golf, Junior Golf and All-abilities Golf.
- Management of Pennant teams and other representative teams.
- Develop and review of Club policy and procedures related to playing competition golf.
- Manage the annual budget set by the Board for use administering events, purchasing uniforms, purchasing trophies/prizes and other golf event related expenses.
- Providing referees, as required, for events.
- Framing local rules in accordance with the Rules of Golf.
- Instructions relating to course designation, placement of tees and pins in conjunction with the advice of the Course Superintendent/Director of Golf.
- Maintaining a register of winners of all major competitions.
- Maintaining honour boards and perpetual trophies.
- Review all code of conduct and disciplinary matters related to the playing of golf.
- Prepare an annual work calendar that addresses the items in this list of Specific Responsibilities.
A quorum is when at least 50% of Committee Members are in attendance.
Club Captain Position Description
The Club Captain is a pivotal leadership role at Lonsdale Links, embodying the spirit and values of our community. The responsibilities of the Club Captain include:
- Visibility and Engagement: The Club Captain should be an accessible and approachable figure within the Club, actively playing, meeting, and socialising with a diverse range of Members. This engagement is essential to understanding the needs and perspectives of various stakeholders.
- Strategic Collaboration: A strong and collaborative relationship with the Director of Golf is crucial for the club’s success. The Captain, along with the Match Committee, focuses on setting the strategic direction for golf at the Club, while the Director of Golf manages the day-to-day operational aspects.
- Ceremonial Leadership: The Club Captain should be available to lead ceremonial duties, especially during the conclusion of major golf events. This role underscores the Captain’s commitment to upholding the traditions and spirit of the Club. In the event that the Club Captain is unavailable then they should try to ensure a Vice Captain is able to fulfill this duty.
By fulfilling these duties, the Club Captain plays an integral role in fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and well-managed golfing community.
