Women’s President Report for October

Congratulations to the winners of the Maggie Roddick, Eunice Percy and Lynette Reynolds, played earlier this month.  It was a competitive final match and the winners were delighted to finally win on the 18th hole and celebrate with followers in the clubhouse afterwards.

Welcome to new member of staff Gabriel, who has replaced Helen at reception/front office.  Welcome also to our new members that have joined this month, especially Louise Ramsden and Gaylyn Pike.  With so many new male members joining it is good to have some women also joining.

Forty-five ladies participated in our annual golf trip this month, this year to Cape Shank.  Thank you to the organizers – Marg, Heather, Rachael and Vicki.  Tracey Golightly will replace Heather on next year’s organizing committee.  We enjoyed playing on a golf course quite different to our own.  This year’s Green Jacket winner was Ann Crook, on a countback from Leigh-Ann Johnson.

This month we lost one of our esteemed members, Janet Stoyles.  Janet was a member at both Barwon Heads and Lonsdale. LGC was well represented with 18 of our ladies attending a celebration of her life at the family home in Point Lonsdale.

Amenities Day – 76 played in the 4-person dropout Ambrose, including one visitor from Curlewis and two from Ocean Grove.  Two of the visitors were part of the winning team  Leigh-Ann Johnson, Eva Russell, Sally Schaller (Ocean Grove GC) & Dianne Clifton (Ocean Grove GC) Thank you to everyone that contributed to the success of the day, which raised an overall total of $1,580.  The sponsors – Carol, Eunice, Marj, Val and Sally; raffle and trade table contributors.  $5 per head from the entry money went towards the Amenities fund.  As usual a happy vibe filled the room and the ladies enjoyed a lovely lunch to finish off a good day.

Last Friday four of our members turning 80 this year, Heather McFarlane, Marg Burgin, Lauris Wilson and Judy Thomas, were feted at a luncheon organised by Eva Russell. Congratulations, and I am sure you will all still be enjoying your golf and comradary at LGC for many years to come!

Melbourne Cup Day 9.30am shotgun start 4BBB any combination. Enjoy the day at the Club. Should be a fun day and you are encouraged to dress to impress with prizes to be won for best dressed male and female. Entry forms available from the clubhouse or online.  Pre payment required. Entries processed through the office.  Lunch only guests also invited.

Sally Collier is organizing Entertain the Committee Day this year, 14th November.  9am shotgun start. Pay for golf in pro shop and lunch will be as on a normal golf day, but you are requested to put $5 each in the envelope on your table to cover the cost of hosting the committee on that day.  The committee is looking forward to having the day off! Any surplus money will go towards supplying drinks for our Christmas break-up, as we did last year.  The three winners of the Amenities Day Sean’ raffle will be drawn on that day, to form a 4 person Ambrose team with Sean to play at Christmas Break-up.  Reminder, that team will be ineligible to win the event, but it will be a treat to play with Sean.  Good luck to those that have entered, raising $242.

Chook Run & Veterans Xmas Break-up Thursday 23rd November.  9.30 am shotgun start.  $20 includes golf and light lunch. Register your name with prepayment at the office, not the pro shop.  Judy will then organise the hole allocations and put up on the website.

Another busy month ahead with the following events in November in addition to the above.

Women’s Medalist of the Year to be played Saturday 11th.

Final of Women’s Foursomes to be played Thursday 16th.

Presentation Night dinner Saturday 25th.

Women’s Xmas Break-up golf & luncheon Tuesday 28th November.

Women’s sub-committee for next year.  Reminder that completed nomination forms need to be returned to notice board in locker room before Entertain the Committee Day, when the new committee will be announced. The changeover will take place at the Women’s Christmas Break-up Luncheon on Tuesday 28th November.

Name badges – I will be placing the final order for this year on 14th November.  If you would like to order one there is a list up in the locker room.

Our XGolf facility should be operating mid November.  Thanks Leo, we look forward to the official opening. The club is indebted to Leo and his volunteers for bringing this facility to completion, for all of us to enjoy. Have any of the women considered making up a team to play in the X League?

Good golfing everyone.
