Gross winner was Vicki Carnie of Curlewis from Vicki Johnstone of Warrnambool. Nett winner was Susan Horne of Clifton Springs from Vicki Johnstone of Warrnambool. The Stableford competition was won by Lyn Reynolds on 17 points, second was Liz Iser on 17 points on a countback from Bev Obst third. Golden Shot Merle May.
Friday 16th Lonsdale Irish Fourball Open Week
A fabulous time was had by everyone on this special day. Luckily the weather was excellent. We had 108 in the field, the clubhouse looked wonderful and the meal was lovely. The trophies and raffle tables were beautiful but I think best of all was the effort Don Hanley and his extensive crew of helpers went to to assist and give a really welcoming atmosphere to the day. Many thanks to everyone who helped financially and physically.
Winners were Sally Collier, Jo Cordner, Tayna McGann and Barbara Prussner 102 aggregate. Second was a team from Kew; Hilary Hodgetts, Jenny Cropley, Jo Wormald and Jane Blyth 101.
Tuesday 20th Pairs Multiplier Stableford.
This very harsh game was won by Jeannie Hildebrandt and Felicity Ferrier on 55 points. Second were Bev Wheeler and Carol Trotter on 53. Bev and Carol had 20 points on the 18 because Carol had a hole in one and Bev a birdie. Well done Carol who now has the first Hole in One on the 18th and a very good eagle’s nest haul of 35 balls
Saturday 24th Stableford
First Division was won by Jan Boulton of Cheltenham on 38 points on a countback from Carol Hutchinson. Division Two was won by Caroline Snow 36 points with Sandy Tims of Barwon Valley on 34.
The Rounds of the Maggie Roddick continue to be played and I thank Heather McFarlane for her sponsorship of this gold letter event. The final on the 6th of November at 9.30 is always worth following and I encourage you all to do so. Remember to find a partner for the Lonsdale Foursomes which is the next gold letter event in our calendar. The entries for the Longuehaye are out and in the clubhouse. This is a fun event with the boys and on a Sunday. I understand that Summer Pennant will be on again run from the clubhouse. Dates are Oct 27 to December 1st.
Open Week is the big event in September and my thanks goes to Lorel Larcombe who does all the entries. The entries are down and this is true across all clubs. The wet weather we have had this year has been discouraging to travel and I congratulate all those who have entered both ours and other clubs Opens. Our Irish Fourball continues to have great support happily and is a major event in the year. Thanks to Prim de Steiger, Jo Cordner, Rae Jacobsen, Tayna, Liz Iser and Barb Prussner for their contribution to the raffle prizes. We made an excellent profit to go towards Amenities Day
Congratulations to Vicki Leckey on winning the Saturday Shield on 99 points across three rounds of 35, 32 and 32. Only eight players completed all three rounds due mainly to inclement weather.
We have had some good wins in the District. In August Jo Cordner, Heather Perkins Bev Wheeler and Marg Pitcher were runners up in the Norma Wallace Salver at East Geelong. In September Bev, Marg and Heather followed up that win with another at East Geelong in the Irish 3 Ball. Very well done.
I would personally like to thank Helen Irwin for the tireless work she has been doing on our behalf over the last few weeks. It has been very busy and a great deal of extra time with meetings.
Amenities flyers are out. It will be a Dropout Ambrose in teams of four. Feel free to bring a guest if you wish. I will be away in the Gulf country of Queensland spotting birds, hot sweaty and covered in dust and sunscreen. I am sure you will have a great Amenities Day and a super Golf Trip to Creswick. I look forward to hearing all about it. I have arranged again to raffle Sean for the Christmas breakup, proceeds to go to Amenities Day. Put your name in the hat as often as you like for a dollar a time and the first three drawn out play with Sean in the Christmas Ambrose off the first tee.
Many thanks to Rob Aulich for his kind offer to the women of Queens Park and Barwon Valley to play our course for competition fees only while their courses are unplayable due to the rain. The goodwill this generates is important.
You will all be glad to know that the amalgamation of the men’s and women’s district golf is finalised and next year we will be a single entity. While this is being wound up legally we continue to enter and play district events as usual. There a a lot of flyers for district events on the notice board and I particularly recommend the district championships in three divisions to you and the end of year Summer Stableford. A letter was sent to Sue Hazel, Mandy Buckley and Lynne to thank them on your behalf for all the work they put in creating a constitution and structure for district golf that will continue our fine Women’s traditions.
