Newsletter from Helen and Sally – 13th July

Posted on: 13 July

With such wintry weather the last two Tuesdays there has been nobody there for announcements so we need to keep you up to date with the news!  The medal to be played yesterday was postponed. Some brave souls went out to play but came back after three holes very wet and windblown.  Instead some of us played bridge in front of the fire; always an alternative on such days. With winter weather upon us and some electing not to play golf on wet days, is anyone interested in other board/card games (other than bridge)? If so we could invest in some board games to have on hand. Rob is also investigating purchasing indoor bowls. Your thoughts welcome. With the log fire going the clubhouse is a nice place to be on a wintry day.

Congratulations to Lynne Toleman on winning the Womens Captains Shield on 3rd July.
The Iris & Charlie Phelan singles knockout draw is now up on the website.

Pru Thom suffered a heart attack on Saturday while playing golf. After arresting three times in the ambulance on the way to hospital, luckily she is now stabilized after having a stint inserted. A shock to us all, and our best wishes go out to Pru and we hope to see her playing golf and bridge with us again very soon.  Marj Golding’s procedure went well, but Gary’s condition is deteriorating I think he is now in a wheelchair, so Marj will not be around much.

Our social secretary, Myrna, is herself waiting to have an operation to remove a kidney stone. She has been having a very busy time keeping up with all the get well cards.
Many coming and going this time of the year. Jo Barker, Nan Calnin, Cheryl Selkirk, Helen Blundy, Dot Orton and Jo Cordner are just some that I know about. Think Heather Peters is off soon as well. With so much happening around the world at the moment we trust they will all return safely.

This month we welcome a new lady, Virginia Todd, who has joined us from Queens Park. She will be a weekend player, so it is a given that the weekend girls will make her feel welcome. Believe we may also be having some ladies coming across from Thirteenth Beach.

Thank you to the ladies that took the time to put forward their views on the practice facilities options and other feedback. I will collate and present at the Executive meeting this Saturday. However I am fairly sure that the decision has already been made to not use the 17th fairway as a long range practice area, but I feel it is important that the women are also canvassed for their views, especially as we represent such a large percentage of the playing members of this club.

Our caterer, Rachael and her family will be taking a holiday in Queensland soon for a well earned break. Tuesday and Thursday lunches will still be available as usual, but the restaurant will be closed for dinner for three weeks:
Tuesday nights 19th July – 2nd August
Friday nights 22nd July – 5th August
Saturday nights 23rd July – 6th August

Charity Day Tuesday 16th August – 4BBB stableford. Entry forms are now available from the clubhouse or you can download one from the women’s page of the club website. Entries processed through the office. Please invite your friends to play and make it a successful day. Declan’s mother, Barb, will join us for lunch on that day and update us on Declan’s progress. Thank you to Lorel and Jo Barker for sponsoring the day, also Helen Lewry for her very generous donation.

Thanks Judy Collins for using the money raised from the snakes last week to purchase bottles of wine for the NTP’s on Charity Day. This means we will be able to put more of the entry money towards Declan Vallance.

Nine Holers and Charity Day
Arrangements have been made for two groups of nine Holers to play on Charity Day August 16th. You will play off the Tenth and Eleventh tees at a later time so you finish with the 18 hole players and join us for lunch. You need to book at the Proshop, pay $5 for golf which will be an individual stableford including NTP’s, and pay $15 for lunch to Helen inside. All payments will be on the day. Great raffles inside.

Lunch only is another option. Contact Helen if you would like to be included.

Thanks Faye Richardson for the fund raising idea. Other suggestions welcome. However we may use those ideas on Amenities Day. I will be looking to form a small group to run the fund-raising side of Amenities Day. If you have some good ideas and are prepared to help please let Helen know.
