Women’s President Report

April 2016

April is a busy month with the club championships and pennant.  The final round will be played next Tuesday when the champions will be celebrated after presentations.  The women really appreciate Bob Macafee sponsoring these championships, as he has done so for many years now.  I would love to have him actually present the trophies one year and give the ladies the opportunity to thank him in person.

Even though pennant is still in the early stages there are plans already in progress for the Pennant dinner on Friday 20th May.  The theme for the night will be Country and Western with the line dancing team heading the show. The ladies at LGC know how to party!  Last Friday was the first week hosting at Pt Lonsdale, and thank you Rachael for the delicious soup.  I have informed the other pennant teams in Division 7 that we should be in contention for winning the soup contest this year.

There have been a couple of incidents lately of ladies bringing food prepared at home into the clubhouse.  Our caterers are responsible for all the catering requirements in the clubhouse, and apart from showing a lack of respect it also puts the caterers and the club itself in jeopardy if there had been a food problem. It also needs to be remembered that catering costs are now under control from a financial point of view, voiding costs to the club, and we need to respect and support the contract that the club has with the caterer.

Captain Sally and Kath Evans have been busy working on the Women’s Information Booklet bringing it up to date and it is now complete.  A big thank you to them and hopefully the ladies take advantage of all the information it contains.

Many of the ladies attended Hal Orton’s life celebration recently.  His wife Dot is one of our treasured lady members and really appreciated the support given by the women.  This week Glad Gogoll passed away aged 83.  She had been Women’s President twice and her husband was a life member, and together they did good work for the club and were very popular.

The club has guidelines for the lowering to half mast of the flag as a mark of respect.  Any request has to be processed through the office to ensure the request complies with the club’s guidelines.

Foxtel is proving popular at the club.  There was a great vibe in the clubhouse on Easter Saturday with members and visitors watching the football matches.  We may need to think about purchasing the larger TV sooner rather than later.

We have welcomed six new ladies to the club in the last few weeks.  With Sean’s beginner clinic starting today hopefully we may gain some more in the near future.

Our next big event will be the Women’s Challenge Lonsdale Bowl next month.  Captain Sally has obtained a sponsor for the day.  We have also received sponsorship money from four of our ladies, Carol Hutchinson, Eunice Percy, Valerie Avent and Marj Donovan who have combined to sponsor our Amenities Day later in the year.  We really appreciate their generosity as we started the year with none for our special events and now the year is not looking so drastic!

We are also following up on trophy sponsorship money some of the women paid to the club in addition to their subscription fees last year.  We want to ensure their donation is appreciated and recognized at the annual presentation function.

I would also like to thank Rob for procuring the opportunity of sponsorship from Mark Thompson (Beaurepairs Tyres) for the women’s pennant next year; same deal as the men’s pennant.

So far the golf year is going well.  Thank you to the ladies for their support in my role as Women’s President.
