Women’s Captain Report April 2016
Posted on: 5 April
Tuesday the 1st was a stroke competition in two divisions and also the second round of the silver spoon. Division one winner was Jill Graham on nett 69 and division two winner was Pam Cornell nett 72. The winner of the second round of the silver spoon was Lynne Toleman on nett 74.
Women’s Guest Day on the 8th of February had a wonderful field of 124 players with 128 for lunch. The theme of spots and stripes made for a very colourful day of golf gear trophies and table decorations. The competition had been reduced to 9 holes in light of the predicted high temperature and humidity and the very full field. This was the sensible decision and the review of the extreme weather policy is timely.
Winners of the front nine for guest and member were Kaye Atlas and Maureen Harrison with 24 points and runners up were Felicity Ferrier and Jane Derham on 23 points. Member and member winners were Carol Yawkins and Ursula Cole on 23 points. Guest and member winners on the back were Barbara Prussner and Cynthia Berry, 22 points on a countback from Sue French and Marg Martin. Member member winners were Liz Iser and Bev Obst on 24 points.
I congratulate the women on their support of this event and I think these are our largest numbers both in the field and for the lunch which was delicious.
The club qualifier for the Renee Austin event was Caroline Snow on nett 70 on Saturday.
Results: Tuesday the 15th
Division 1: Winner Rae Jacobsen, +3.
Division 2: Winner Heather Peters, + 3.
Division 3: Winner Jo Barker+ 4.
Golden shots, 10th Barbara Prussner, 15th Jo Barker.
We thank Sean for two great Pennant Clinics. Our Sunday team played their first match Sunday 20th, with a 1 1/2, 3 1/2 loss.
The prestigious SWDLGA event the Betty Kernot Foursomes were completed this month and we congratulate Tayna McGann and Jo Cordner on reaching the Semi Finals which they lost on the 18th hole at Portarlington. The weather was atrocious and was a gutsy effort to play at all let alone play as well as they did. A big thank you to them and to the hardy followers who continue to represent the club in the district.
We have settled on dates for Pink Lady Day. We will have a voluntary donation of a gold coin in a sand bucket on the sign in desk on Saturday 6th of May and on Tuesday 10th of May. These are either side of Mother’s Day which seems appropriate. Cherryl Selkirk will register for the Club and decorate and promote collect money and give to Rob to draw a cheque from the Club. Cherryl will liaise with Pro Shop. There will be a raffle of 4 bottles of wine over the week. We decided at Match last year to do this bi-annually on even years.
Kath Evans and I represented Lonsdale at the inaugural invitational event at Lara to honour past members.
Tuesday the 22nd was a Stableford in three divisions. A grade winner was Petrina Tierney with 36 points, B grade Georgie White on 39 and C grade Patsy Waters with 29 on a countback. Georgie White was the silver spoon qualifier.
Tuesday the 29th saw Valarie Avent have 40 points to win A grade while Georgie White won B grade on 37. Carolyn Maas had a Golden Shot win on the 15th and also an eagle on the 3rd.
The four Friday Pennant teams were announced on Tuesday 29th and we wish them luck this year. They are posted on the website and in the locker room. We play in Divisions 2, 3, 6 and 7. We also have quite a few new women members who are playing in the Thursday field regularly and this is largely due to Judy Collins efforts in making this a great event for new members and warmly welcoming them.
Championships begin next week a little later than usual due to the early Easter and it will be interesting to see how the numbers compare to previous years. The later start means we do not clash with the Betty Kernot event and the weather is less likely to be hot.
I have finished rewriting the Women’s “Green” Book which details all running of events, job descriptions and procedures. When printed I will table a copy for Match. Ian and I have given Linda an amended copy of what will go in the fixture book next year regarding Gold Letter Events and eligibility.
Can we please check that the new rule re use of distance devices is correctly described on web and flyers.
Sally Collier, Women’s Captain.
