Storrer Cup
Posted on: 12 February
The finalists in the Storrer Cup were Alan Maloney and Martin Evans and John Christophersen and Rob Hutchinson.
This was a very close match played in good spirit. Alan struggled in the first few holes and relied on Marty’s drives. Later his form returned and the pair combined very well – if one made a mistake the other stepped up.
John and Rob combined well and were 2 up early in the match getting back to square at the ninth. From then on many holes were squared and it looked as though the match might go on forever.
On the 15th Rob’s drive was on the edge of the green and the other 3 were in bunkers. No decision about which ball to take for John and Rob, Marty decided to take Alan’s drive but overshot the green from the bunker. Alan had a difficult chip back but he executed it very well leaving a metre putt. John then putted Rob’s drive but left it short, Rob thinking he had to get the ball in the hole putted too long, Marty putted his in, John missed the short putt and the tide of the match turned. Alan and Marty went to 2 up.
The next 2 holes were squared and Alan and Marty won the Storrer Cup 2/1. This was their second time. Their last win was in 2011.
Thanks to the supporters who came to follow the match. It makes a final a special event.
CONGRATULATIONS ALAN AND MARTIN
