Captain’s Report – June

Posted on: 23 June

New Members

Michael Rainey, Callum Taylor, Tanner Coltish, Stuart Blythe, Timothy Ladlow and Annie Lee.

It is pleasing to see that membership is increasing.

Please introduce yourself to these people and make them welcome.

Captains Cup and Women’s Captain’s Shield

The semi-final and final of the Captain’s Cup was held on Sunday 18 June. In the morning round

Ben Martin defeated Jeff Nicholson 5/4 and Zane Moylan defeated John Anderson on the 19th.

After a very close match Ben Martin was the winner of the 2017 Captain’s Cup defeating Zane Moylan 2 up.

Vets Day

Thursday 25 May was Chicks v Roosters. It was interesting to see all the footy colours  and to see who supported each team. Well done to the Chicks, who won the day and to Judy Collins and John Scott for arranging the day.

Juniors

The junior program is working well and we now have nearly 30 players on the list and we are still averaging between 10 and 15 players each week.

We are happy for any junior aged from 9 – 16 to attend, but have found that those younger than 9 have difficulty in concentrating and keeping up with the older players.

Thank you to Sean for his coaching and his great newsletters. Thanks also to all the volunteers and parents who are supporting the program.

There is a new roster for the months of June and July. If you are on the list and cannot make your day, please make arrangements for someone else to take your place.

The current program for juniors will end at the end on 22 July but there will be arrangements made for those interested in continuing to play golf. More details on the transition next month.

Open Week

This year Open Week will run from Tuesday 12 September until Sunday 17 September. Events will be similar to last year, so please keep these dates free.

The vets day on the Monday has been omitted due to lack of support and the Veterans Cups donated by Edgars Real Estate will be played for at other times. The MEN will compete for the cup in the GDGA Vets day held at Lonsdale and the Women’s Cup will be won by the winner of a Vets Comp held on 15 October.

Competition Prize Structure

The Match Committee has been looking at the Prize Structure and Graham Douglas has spent a lot of time looking at the statistics and working on a proposal.

Purpose of proposed change.

Maybe bolster Prize winners’ trophies and reduce the Ball Pool

Have an equitable division of players.

There was a suggestion from a member that winners of the Golden Shot may like to donate some of their winnings to the Junior Program.

Final decision next month.

SWGA Meeting

Kath Evans and I attended a meeting of the SWGA to review the changes to the Rules of Golf to come

into use on 1 January 2019. If you are interested in the changes they are on the randa.org website. There is room there for you to answer a survey as to your opinion of the changes and to give feed back.

Many of the rules are intended to speed up the pace of play. You can help with this by playing ready golf, hitting off before marking your card, being ready to play your shot when it is your turn and not taking more than 2 practice swings.
