Kath & Frank Hoare Opening Day Report
Posted on: 5 February
Opening day was a very successful day as we remembered the wonderful contribution to the Club by Frank and Kath Hoare. For those who didn’t know them Kevin Tangey painted a picture of Kath the Saint and Frank the lovable larrikin, and their history with Lonsdale GC in the morning. Bob Macafee told a few out of school stories in the afternoon. It was good to be able to remember and reminisce.
There were over 190 players for the day, 112 played in the am field and 80 pm. This was a record number of players for the day in recent years. We were very lucky with the weather as a sea breeze blew in late in the morning and continued throughout the day becoming a bit more than a breeze in the afternoon.
Scores for the day were amazing with Michael Davis and Bill Grbac having 50 points in the morning Greg Mather and Matthew Brown runners up with 48 points. Greg and Matthew won the Frank and Kath Hoare Cup on a countback from the afternoon winners Tim Fletcher and Robert Dyer. The Cup may only be won by a member / member combination. Alan Fry and John O’Donoghue were the pm runners up.
Congratulations to all winners and thank you all for supporting the day.
A special thank you to Bob Macafee and Kevin Tangey for your stories.
Frank and Kath would be proud and happy to see such a fantastic turnout.
