Captain’s Report – December

New Members
Welcome Julie Heath and Tim Callan.
Heat Policy
Due to the probability of hot days over the next few months the Club will introduce a Heat Policy to protect members from health – related conditions. All members will be notified of the Policy in the next week.
In the mean-time please be sensible and if you are feeling heat stress come back to the Clubhouse.
New Local Rule: Rule Change to Incorrect Score Card
Earlier this week the R&A announced a new local rule that will eliminate the additional penalty a player currently incurs under Rule 6-6d for returning an incorrect score card when the error is caused by failing to include a penalty the player was not aware of.
Currently, the missing penalty stroke/s are applied to the player’s score (if the error is identified before the competition closes) AND an additional penalty applied for making the error. It is only the additional penalty that is being eliminated.
This new local rule will be considered to be automatically in effect at all Australian courses from 1 January 2018.
Lonsdale Classic
Both fields for this event are full and there is a waiting list. Thank you to all sponsors and regular participants for their support. We are looking forward to Jan 3 & 4 and I wish all players good luck.
Storrer Cup
Entry forms are available in the Clubhouse and on the website. Entries close on Jan 6 at 5.00pm and rounds are to be played by Jan 14, 21, Feb 4 with final on 11 Feb at 12 noon.
If entries exceed 16 then Jan 14 will be a qualifying round with top 8 pairs to qualify. Matches will be drawn and times allocated from 12 noon.
X Golf
It is exciting to see the new facility up and running with thanks to all the volunteers who made this possible. Leo and his team have done a great job and members thank all those who have helped in the construction. It is an amazing concept with so much detail available about each shot. We all have a lot we can learn.
If you have a chance give it a try over the holidays. It is air-conditioned so on hot days is an alternative to walking the course.
Merit Award
At the Annual Meeting on 17 December Ben Martin and Heather Perkins received this prestigious award.
They were well deserving recipients both having won Club Championships, Captains Cup/ Shield, Foursomes and most other gold letter events multiple times. They have represented the Club in pennant and participated in other District and State events.
Well done and congratulations Heather and Ben.
Tim Smith
As most members are aware Tim has been on long service leave for the last 6 months and he has now decided to resign. I am sure all members would wish me to thank Tim for his work, above and beyond the call of duty, in keeping the course in excellent condition over his time as Course Superintendent with a very small staff.
There have been some difficult years when funds were tight and machinery needed to be replaced and droughts when Tim spent many hours of his own time ensuring the tees and greens survived and that the course was in the best possible condition.
I would like to thank Tim for his dedicated service and wish him well in the future as he explores new fields.
I would like to thank all members for their support during the year and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe and healthy 2018.
